The 6 Mistakes To Avoid For Perfect Cleansing.

Elevate your skincare game by paying attention to these simple tips.

Although washing your face might seem like a simple task, getting it right can be more complex than you might think.

From using the wrong water temperature to choosing the wrong product for your skin, the list of mistakes you could potentially make during this important step – the first commandment of Korean skin care for perfect skin – is potentially endless. Let’s take a look at the most common cleansing mistakes. And don’t forget to let us know how many mistakes you regularly make by commenting on our social media.

Mistake number 1: The water is too hot.

Although you might think that hot water on your face would be good for you, this is not always the case. When water is too hot, it can dry out your skin because it strips it of its natural oils.

What’s more, in sensitive and rosacea-prone skin it can also generate inflammation and redness. So remember: for healthy skin, it’s always best to cleanse with lukewarm water.

Mistake No. 2: Overdoing it with scrubbing.

It’s true: physical exfoliation with scrubs can help improve radiance, but when you overdo it, you run the risk of damaging the outer layer of the skin. The result? Your skin becomes red and inflamed. Not only does the skin continue to have that dull tone that we hate so much, but by doing so we risk compromising the skin barrier, with the danger of generating terrible rashes in no time at all. It is fine to carry out physical exfoliation from time to time, as long as it is always very gentle, but always using gentle products specifically for the face.

The alternative? Complete your cleansing with a chemical exfoliant.  For example, those based on glycolic and mandelic acid are gentle enough to be used every day. In fact, unlike scrubs that physically remove cells from the surface of the skin, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) help loosen cellular bonds so that dead cells can be eliminated quickly and naturally.

Mistake number 3: not cleansing the skin thoroughly.

This is a particularly common mistake among makeup users. Not removing everything thoroughly can have a negative impact on the skin, because the pores remain clogged and the risk of generating infections and unpleasant problems is very high. The solution? Double cleansing.

Alternating between an oil and water-based cleanser ensures that both categories of debris (water-soluble and oil-soluble) are completely removed and your skin is always hydrated, balanced and thoroughly cleansed.

Mistake #4: Washing your skin too often.

Washing your skin too thickly can in the long run damage the skin’s protective layer. This, in turn, affects how well your skin reacts to the environment, how efficiently it retains humectant factors, alas, one of the first causes of the first signs of ageing.

It is standard practice not to wash your face more than twice a day: once in the morning and once in the evening. BUT if you exceed the limit of two washes a day, for example if you do a lot of sport, you may want to use something gentle, such as micellar water or a very mild cleanser, for these extra washes.

Mistake #5: Using the wrong cleanser.

There are two main reasons why the cleanser you’re using on your face may not be the right one.

The first is that you’re not using a product designed for the face. Think of washing your face with a body wash or hand soap. These products contain harsh detergents that can strip the skin of its natural oils and compromise the integrity of the skin barrier, leading to dryness and irritation.

The second reason is when you choose a cleanser that isn’t right for your skin type. We can’t say it enough: the key to a successful beauty routine, the first and most important step, is to know your skin type and, consequently, choose the right products.

Mistake number 6: Using a toner that is too astringent.

When used strategically, an astringent toner is good for the skin, but when used too often (or used too heavily in the same application) it can have a negative impact on your skin.

By strategic use, we mean when your face is particularly oily (a common condition during PMS). The trick is to alternate it with more moisturising toners during the week, or to use it only in the morning, allocating hydration to your night-time routine. In fact, a toner that is too astringent can dry out the skin and make it feel tight. This even results in excess sebum production as the glands physiologically try to compensate for this moisture deficit.

To make the best use of an astringent toner, be sure to pour a few drops onto a cotton ball and gently wipe your face. But don’t forget to apply moisturiser immediately afterwards. But don’t worry, because all the toners you will find on Miloon have no alcohol or other harmful ingredients, so shop with confidence.
