Exfoliation is the second step of Korean skincare routine. It helps to remove dead cells on the skin’s surface.
A lot of people skip exfoliation, yet they do not know what an important step it is. A step as essential as cleansing and moisturizing, exfoliation-connected benefits are never enough.

Why is Exfoliation important?

Our skin always generates new skin cells from the lower layers. As they get old, these move to the surface. In fact, as we age, our body is slower to shed skin cells and generate new ones. Old skin cells rising on the surface leaves skin looking dull, rough and dry. Such an amass of dead skin cells can result in an excess of oil and clogged pores while leading to blemish and acne.

Why exfoliation is beneficial?

Exfoliation brings your skin back to a baby-soft, glowy state. It removes clinging cells, revealing fresher, younger skin cells below. This allows skincare products to follow to better penetrate the skin’s surface.

Understanding different types of exfoliator: Physical vs Chemicals.

There are two main types of exfoliation. Physical exfoliation and Chemical exfoliation.

Physical Exfoliators are also known as face scrubs or manual scrubs. They contains little bits, tiny scrubbing particles that you can feel with your hands. They come in different forms like salt grains, sugar or nuts. This is a great way to scrub away all the dead cells on the surface of your skin. After using it, you can feel that instant joy of a freshly-scrubbed face, that glowing and smooth sensation.

One of our favorite physical exfoliators, is Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial Polish. It contains plenty of black sugar, which aids in the removal of dead skin cells as well as blackheads. But be careful to not go too harsh!  Rubbing too much can lead to irritated skin as well as exposing flesh to bacteria and infections.Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Facial PolishChemical Exfoliators

Don’t get fooled by the intimidating name. There’s nothing to be afraid. We guarantee that acids are super beneficial for your complexion. Chemical exfoliators include cleansers, toners, serums and sometimes moisturizers.

Common chemical exfoliators will have low-percentage of gentle

AHAs or BHAs acids.

AHAs ( Alpha Hydroxy Acids) are usually derived from natural ingredients. AHAs work on skin’s surface, and are water soluble. Also, they have ability to enhance natural moisturizing factors within skin. AHAs are also capable of enhancing our skin’s natural moisture level. They smoothen skin texture and improve uneven skin tone. If your skin concerns is uneven texture and pigmentation, look no further. The effect of AHAs acids will amaze you.  These play an active role in the reducing visible signs of sun damage, fine lines and acne scars. They are best for normal, dry and sensitive skin.

BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acids) works on skin’s surface and inside the pores. They are oil soluble. These are perfect for normal, oily skin that is prone to bumps, clogs, blemishes, and enlarged pores.

BHA features natural skin-calming properties. It’s enough gentle for such sensitive skin that might suffer from redness and rosacea.

One of our best performing  exfoliator is Neogen “Bio Peel Gauze Peeling Lemon”. In fact, the most familiar BHA, Salicylic acid is one o the most active ingredient for treating acne.  This single-use exfoliating pad purify the skin as it removes dead skin cells.
