1. LAYER ON THE MOISTURE.

Just like you pile on the clothes (shirt, sweater, jacket, scarf), you want to layer on the hydration. Dry winter skin needs all the support it can get and layering provides a much needed, additional dose of moisture.

With lower temperatures approaching, weekend is the perfect time to hit the slopes and enjoy the chilly weather. Yet, the risk of dehydration is always behind the corner. That’s when layering moisturizing products in the right order could really come to hand. There are a handful of different types of moisturizing ingredients and they each have slightly different roles when it comes to hydrating your skin. A humectant, like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, or aloe vera for example, attracts moisture from the air and deeper layers of skin. On the other hand occlusives (like olive oil, lanolin, and mineral oil) work to seal it all in. This layering technique will grant your skin moisture to long laster all winter long and achieve that glowing look. Now you got the basics it’s time to master this layering technique to perfection.

2. THE 7 SKIN METHOD.

This technique can be applied exclusively to toner, to do what is usually referred to as the 7 skin method. In a nutshell, this is a skincare regimen where 7 layers of your toner are patted on and layered in succession. (Interesting note: ‘skin’ and ‘toner’ are the same word in Korean.) The idea behind the 7 layers is that the moisture level of skin can be increased in an efficient and effective way without the heaviness or greasiness that may come from traditional creams and oils. It’s also a great way to hydrate all skin types, providing the optimal balance of hydration and skin’s natural oils with a subtle dewy glow and firmer skin.
Use no more than a dime’s width of the product when poured onto your palm. An excess amount will not only waste the product but not allow the gentle and effective patting to take place.
The most common application method is to wipe the skin with a cotton pad drenched in ‘skin’ or toner first, and patting with hands for the rest of the 6 steps. Allow at most 3 minutes in between each step, pat the goodness onto your face for 2 of the 3 waiting times.

3. BRIGHTEN UP WITH VITAMIN C.

It’s safe to say many of us experience the winter skin blues: Dull, ashy, flaky complexion. Ward them off by giving your skin a daily dose of vitamin C, which helps to reduce dark spots and soften rough skin, restoring its natural luminosity. Mix two drops of Klairs Vitamin Drop into your moisturizer, morning and night, to make your skin look brighter as the days get darker.
